From the sunlit slopes of the Chianti region comes Poggiotondo Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, a true expression of Tuscan character and craftsmanship. Full of life and flavour, this oil reflects both the warmth of the land and the care of its maker. With its deep green hue and fragrant notes of artichoke and pepper, Poggiotondo captures the essence of the countryside where vines and olive trees thrive side by side.
Harvest
Each Poggiotondo harvest follows the rhythm of the Tuscan seasons. Mild winters and warm, dry summers bring healthy fruit, untouched by disease or pests. The olives are hand picked from mid October, when they are perfectly ripe and full of aromatic potential. The estate consistently prioritises quality over quantity, producing a lower yield but a richer, more complex oil. The result is a beautifully balanced Extra Virgin Olive Oil that delivers purity, freshness and depth in every drop.
Producer
The Poggiotondo estate covers 70 hectares on the western hills of Chianti, where olive groves and vineyards share the rolling landscape. It is owned and run by Alberto Antonini, a renowned winemaker who brings the same precision and respect for tradition to his olive oil as he does to his wines.
Antonini’s vision is simple: to create authentic products that express their terroir. Poggiotondo’s oils are distinctly Tuscan — bold yet refined, rich yet balanced. The estate has been certified organic since 2014, reflecting a long term commitment to sustainability and natural cultivation.
Olive Groves
Poggiotondo’s groves are planted with Frantoio and Mignola olives. The Frantoio variety gives the oil its classic Tuscan fruitiness, while Mignola, grown almost exclusively in the area around Cerreto Guidi, adds aromatic intensity and a distinctive peppery finish.
The 3,000 trees sit between 200 and 300 metres above sea level on the northern slopes of the Arno Valley. The warmer microclimate here produces oils that are fuller and rounder in character than those from further inland, yet they retain that signature Tuscan vibrancy and spice.
Production
The olives are hand picked and pressed within 24 hours to ensure absolute freshness. Poggiotondo uses ultra modern stainless steel continuous soft presses to extract the oil at low temperatures. The paste is gently diluted and centrifuged to separate the oil from water and pomace, maintaining purity and protecting the natural aromas.
Throughout the process, the temperature never exceeds 26°C. This cold extraction method prevents oxidation and preserves the vivid colour and clean fruitiness that define Poggiotondo’s oil. The result is an Extra Virgin Olive Oil that is rich, balanced and deeply aromatic.
Tasting Notes
Poggiotondo Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil has a striking deep green colour and a wonderfully expressive nose. The aroma opens with fresh artichoke leaf, cut grass and a hint of white pepper. On the palate, it is full and harmonious, with notes of green almond, herbs and a gentle, lingering spice. The finish is clean and elegant, with that characteristic Tuscan pepperiness that signals an oil of true quality.
